Changing Your Password

How to change your current Engineering passwords on a Windows computer.

Note: The following instructions will NOT change your SMU/Access or other account information. Also, Changing your SEAS-S password WILL NOT change your UNIX password. These two passwords must be changed separately.

While logged into a Windows computer, with your own username (not "install" or any other login), and press the (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) keys simultaneously on your keyboard. Choose "Change Password" from the dialog options.

This will ask you to key in your old password, and then enter a NEW password twice. Then click "OK."

***Please choose your password carefully, with regards to the security of your system. Your password must be at least 8 characters in length and contain all of the following elements: upper case letters (A through Z), lower case letters (a through z) and numbers (0 through 9).

The system will let you know your password has been changed. Click "OK" to continue.

 

This will take effect on your account immediately.

 

Changing UNIX Password

How to change your current Engineering passwords in UNIX.

Once you have logged in to a UNIX computer, type passwd at the command prompt.

You will be asked to enter your current password. Once that is confirmed, enter your new password twice.

Note: The following instructions will NOT change your SMU/Access or other account information. Also, changing your UNIX password WILL NOT change your SEAS-S password.

Please choose your password carefully, with regards to the security of your system. Your password must be at least 8 characters in length and contain all of the following elements: upper case letters (A through Z), lower case letters (a through z), and numbers (0 through 9).
