Course Description:
The time has radically changed software's role. Before, software's role was primarily one of support - both for existing business processes and for delivering information to executive decision makers. The course focuses on the engineering of complex systems that have a strong software component. For such systems, software often assumes functions previously allocated to mechanical and electrical subsystems, changing the way system engineers must think about classical system issues. The course provides a framework for addressing systems engineering issues. Topics include the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model-Integrated (CMMI), deriving and allocating requirements, system and software architectures, integration, interface management, configuration management, quality, verification and validation, reliability, and risk.
