Particular areas of interest include systems requirements engineering and verification, SE planning and management, risk engineering, systems integration and test, and SE design and analysis. Experience in the development of complex defense systems and associated supply chains is desirable, but not required. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in systems engineering or a closely related field and be able to participate in research with defense contractors at their facilities. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and build a strong research program through funding from government agencies or industry. SMU is a private university dedicated to academic excellence. Located in Dallas, Texas, SMU enrolls 11,000 students, with nearly half in graduate programs. The Department of Engineering Management, Information, and Systems (EMIS) resides within the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering and offers a balanced program of research and education at all levels with B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Due to significant interest from the Department of Defense and the nation’s leading aerospace/defense contractors, student enrollment in the MSSE program is one of the largest in the School of Engineering. The SE programs' numerous activities are supported by a Development Team with members from Texas Instruments, Raytheon, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Sandia National Labs, EDS, NASA, L3 Communications, and the U.S. Navy. Interested and qualified individuals should email a curriculum vitae, including a one-page statement of research interests and accomplishments, to: Professor Richard Barr, Chair, Department of Engineering Management, Information, and Systems, at EMISfacultySearch@engr.smu.edu. (If a submission cannot be sent electronically, mail it to the chair at SMU, PO Box 750123, Dallas, TX 75275.) The target appointment date is the fall semester, 2009. The committee will begin its review of the applications on or about January 15, 2009. To ensure full consideration for the position, the application must be emailed or postmarked by January 15, 2009 but the committee will continue to accept applications until the position is filled. The committee will notify applicants of its employment decision after the position is filled.
