SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY, Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of structures/materials. The anticipated starting date is August 2009. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field and will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop laboratories, and build a strong funded research program. Preference will be given to candidates with research focus on biomechanics, smart structures, biomaterials, and nanomaterials. With over 10,000 students, SMU is a leading private University located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The Mechanical Engineering Department resides within the Lyle School of Engineering and is located in the new Embrey Engineering Building, a LEED Gold designed facility. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph. D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering. It houses the Research Center for Advanced Manufacturing and the Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Laser Aided Manufacturing supported by NSF.
