Operations Research Graduate Program

The Program
Operations research is a scientific approach to decision-making, involving the application of mathematical and computational techniques to managerial problems. It is used to design and manage systems, usually under conditions requiring the optimal alloca
tion of scarce resources.
The Operation Research program at Southern
Methodist University is in the School
of Engineering and Applied Science in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering
The graduate program at SMU is flexible, accommodating a student's specific
interests and recognizing that those interests may overlap several
areas. The program is offered at both the masters degree level and the doctoral level. Research specialties include large-scale optimization, mathematical
programming, stochastic methods, network optimization, parallel algorithms,
and heuristic AI/OR solutions methods.

Faculty
At SMU, you can count on small classes led by professors who take the time-
in class or out- to answer your questions and to address any of your concerns.
The professors in the department provide an added dimension to your education
by bringing their research insights and "real world" experience into the
classroom. The same professors who instruct you also teach seminars for and
consult with a variety of national companies and military laboratories.
