Programs in Engineering Education
As part of my foray into the world of engineering education, one of my first tasks was to do a survey of what other programs exist in that area. There are a few more than I expected to find, but not too many. Here is the list:
- SMU’s Lyle School of Engineering’s Caruth Institute for Engineering Education
- Purdue’s School of Engineering Education
- Virginia Tech School of Engineering’s Department of Engineering Education
- Tufts University’s Department of Education’s Ph. D. in Mathematics, Science, Technology and Engineering Education
- Utah State University’s College of Engineering’s Department of Engineering and Technology Education
- UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education’s SESAME (Graduate Group in Science and Mathematics Education)
- Carnegie Mellon’s Program for Interdisciplinary Education Research
- Smith’s Engineering Education Partnership
- Stony Brook’s Ph. D. in Technology, Policy, and Innovation
Given the vital importance of engineering and technology to our nation over the next decades, it seems like the number of programs/people concentrating on the best way to education the future generation of engineers needs to grow exponentially! This needs to be a K – 16 initiative, not just at the university level.
Much to be done….
