There will be two textbooks for this course:

1) Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers., 4th edition
by Douglas C. Montgomery and George C. Runger.

2) A custom edition of Quantitative Analysis for Management., 8th edition.
by Barry Render, Ralph M. Stair Jr., and Michael E. Hanna


The custom edition is paperback version of the regular textbook that contains only the chapters that we will cover in class. So, if you have to access to a regular copy of the book, you can use that.

To provide students with an introduction to a variety of analysis types with emphasis on application to provide a framework for engineering decision making, including situations in which uncertainty and risk are important considerations.

There are no formal prerequisites for this course, but students are assumed to have a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, mathematics, or one of the quantitative sciences.

Your course grade will be determined as follows:

Students are reminded that the SMU Honor Code applies to this course. Honor Code violations will be dealt with in a manner determined by the instructor.

Lecture notes for each class will be available on Blackboard one week prior to the date the date the class meets. You will get the most of this course by reading ahead.

It will be helpful at least one member of your team can load the software that comes with the textbook onto a laptop for use in class.

Also, please bring a calculator for in-class exercises and quizzes.
