To all students in my present and past CSE 7314 class: My grader/RA and I are conducting some research to examine the impact of using formalized/systematic testing techniques based on your past and present CSE 7314 course projects. If we have some interesting findings, the resulting paper(s) will be submitted/published in conferences or journals. We will take every precaution to make sure no personal or other sensitive information is disclosed to the public in these possible publications. In particular, - all personal names will be removed. - all company and product names will be removed, with companies only generally characterized by industry (e.g., financial, IT, etc.). - all data identifications will be removed. (No one can associate individual data points with specific course projects.) - all other sensitive information we deem so, or if you tell us so, will be removed. - the research results will be presented in summary forms, e.g., in terms of averages for specific testing techniques. Please let me know if you object to the use of your project for this research purpose even with the above precautions. In that case, we will exclude your project from our research. Of course, this will not affect your course work in any way for the present CSE 7314 students. Notice that if you have already told me to keep your project confidential previously (e.g., when you submitted your project report), we will not use your project in this research. It's great to have you in my CSE 7314 class and give us this great research opportunity. Hopefully, what we learn from the research I described above will make a positive and lasting impact in the way people test their software and systems. Thank you very much for your help.
