Dr. Weidong Chen
Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering
Dr. Chen received the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from
Nanjing University in China in 1983, the Master of Science in
Computer Science from the State
Unviersity of New York at Stony Brook in 1987 and the Doctor of
Philosophy in Computer Science from the State Unviersity of New York at
Stony Brook in 1990. He joined the faculty at Southern Methodist University in 1990
where he is currently Associate Professor in the Department of
Computer Science & Engineering.
Dr. Chen specializes in the foundation, implementation and
applications of knowledge based systems and more recently,
investigates the technology and applications in mobile computing. The
research in knowledge based systems has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation
(IRI-9212074, IRI-9212074, and IRI-9314897). The goal is to provide
flexible query and inference capabilities by integrating logic
programming, deductive databases, active databases and nonmonotonic
reasoning. The research in mobile computing has been supported in part
by the National Science Foundation
(NCR-9628126) and by the Texas
Higher Education Coordinating Board (1996--1997 and 1998--1999).
The goal is to develop efficient techniques to support wireless
internet applications and personal communication services.
